Working from home can be a challenge when trying to keep your focus on 'work'. There's kids, dogs, cats, partners - you name it they all want some part of your 'focus'. Well, how do you put 'work' on that list and be successful at them all?
I've come up with a few things that have helped me keep my focus on work without discounting my other priorities.
Keep your daily routine. Wake up at the same time each day. Go for a run. Take a shower. Get dressed for work - no sweats or pj's. Have breakfast. Whatever your routine, do it everyday.
Take time for silence. I tend to take 10 minutes - without distractions - in the morning to clear my thoughts and plan for the day ahead. I run through my body from my head to my feet and listen for any tensions and remind myself to relax.
Commute to Work. Literally. Take a walk around the house, your yard or block. Then when you get back, viola you've commuted to your work area (without the stress of traffic.
Have a dedicated workspace. If you're going to commute to work, you need to have a 'place' to go to. If possible create a private, away from 'home life' area to work from.
At the end of the day, clean up your workspace, shut down your laptop and commute back home. It's that easy.
